about the project
An attempt to capture the spirit of an era that seemed to have vanished with the 1990s. For some reason, we took it upon ourselves to revive it — and here it is: a new hotel at Medeo that is both a memory and a contemporary response to questions no one ever asked. The building is deliberately massive and weighty, clad in textured concrete panels that cast deep shadows. The vertical ribs of the façade appear frozen in motion, creating a play of light and shadow — a technique so beloved by Soviet architects. This is not forced retro, but rather a respectful continuation: the architecture isn’t copied, it resumes a logical thread that someone, somewhere, once interrupted. The hotel fits beautifully into the landscape. Its terraced structure descends in response to the mountain terrain, while large panoramic windows break through the concrete solidity, letting nature flood the interiors. This is not just a building — it is a monumental architectural grandstand from which to observe the mountains. The true value of this project lies in its meaning. It’s not merely a hotel; it’s an architectural manifesto. We didn’t just attempt to revive an old project — we created a space that speaks to the past and, more importantly, does so without nostalgia. This is not a monument to a lost era, but a dialogue with it — a rethinking of its legacy in a contemporary context.
