about the project
The concept of the “Tağzym” Memorial is built on duality: black and white stelae as symbols of life and death, hope and loss, light and shadow. White marble embodies purity, innocence, and remembrance. Black granite bears the weight of grief, the inevitability of time, and the trace of pain. The contrast between these materials creates emotional tension, evoking in the visitor a near-physical sense of tragedy. The space is infused with water: a mirror-like surface reflects engraved texts, blurring the line between reality and its reflection, between past and present. Water here is not only a symbol of purification but also a metaphor for time—ever flowing, carrying memories forward without letting them vanish entirely. The engravings on the stelae are the voices of poets and thinkers, frozen in stone. They speak of unity, remembrance, and reverence for life. These are not mere epitaphs—they are attempts at a dialogue between the departed and the living. There is no grandiose monumentality here, no imposing symbols meant to overwhelm. On the contrary, the space remains open—accessible to anyone who wishes to pause, reflect, and remember.Above all, the defining feature of Tağzym’s architecture is its tact. It does not shout. It does not dictate what to feel. Instead, it gently awakens emotion. The memorial speaks of tragedy, but does not dwell in it—allowing memory and hope to exist side by side.
